Andrea now at 60 MPH

Tropical Storm Andrea gained some strength overnight, increasing to 60 MPH winds and a central pressure of 997 MB. The storm also gained forward speed and is now moving towards the northeast at 13 MPH. Another increase in forward speed is anticipated today.

As of the 5 AM advisory, the center of Andrea is located at 27.7 north, 85.1 west. This position is about 280 miles from coastal Glynn county. At 13 MPH, the center is 13 hours away.

Of course, we’ll feel the effects long before then. Only an hour after I put up my first post this morning, the rain clouds had traveled halfway between the Florida/Georgia border and St. Simons. It should be raining by 10 AM.

After the storm passes us, it’s forecast to continue up the coast to at least the Outer Banks. Every coastal community, and quite a few inland ones, will be affected by this storm.

At the moment, St. Simons is under a tropical storm warning and a flood watch. I expect a rip tide warning sooner or later.

Keep an eye on this storm. It probably will be mostly harmless, but you never can tell.
