Rain coming

Saturday, March 31st, 2012

There will be storms today, starting at around 11 AM. At the moment, the rain seems to be light and steady. But there may be heavier rain in an hour or so.

I’ve looked at the relative velocity radar and there does not appear to be any funnel clouds.

The rain is forecast to end at around 9 PM, so the Weather Permitting meeting will happen at 10 PM this evening.

Cold Weather

Saturday, October 17th, 2009

Due to the cold weather I will not be participating in the Weather Permitting group this evening. 58 degrees and 12 MPH winds make for a wind chill in the mid-40’s. Brrrrrrrrr……

Next week should be a lot warmer. Until then!

Good Weather Tonite (updated)

Saturday, August 29th, 2009

The weather should be fine for the Gazebo meeting this evening. It will be in the upper-70’s, with 88 percent humidity. But the skies will be clear, and the ocean breeze nice.

As always remember to bring bug spray, something cool to drink, and your book. See you there!

Update 7:30 PM:
In relation to the story of seven people being found murdered at New Hope Plantation this morning, I have decided to continue on with the meeting. If being out in such circumstances makes you uncomfortable, please stay at home. In any event, be careful and vigilant. Whoever committed this horrible crime is still at large.

I offer the families of those who died my most sincere condolences, and I prey that the criminals who did this are soon brought to justice.

Weather may not permit

Saturday, August 1st, 2009

This evening, the weather may not permit a meeting. The chances of rain and thunderstorms are forty percent at 10 PM. In fact, it’s forty percent or more throughout the evening.

I shall be traveling to the Gazebo if I can, but don’t hold out much hope. If you show up, remember inset repellent and something cool to drink. See you there!

Weather Permits

Saturday, July 18th, 2009

Despite my misgivings earlier this week, the weather permits a meeting tonight. The chance of rain has gone down to 20 percent, which is an acceptable risk.

Don’t forget to bring something cool to drink and some bug spray. See you there!

Update 5:52 PM. No I guess that weather will not permit. In looking at the NWS radar, it is clear that the rain will persist for some hours yet. The rain clouds are training from the southwest and are moving in a northeast direction. Weather Does Not Permit.

Holiday does not permit

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

This is just a reminder that I will not be at the Gazebo for the next Weather Permitting meeting this coming Saturday. It is the July 4th holiday and there may be too many tourists to have a semi-private AA meeting.

However, the Clubhouse will be open on the Fourth from the first meeting at 8 AM to just before the fireworks at 9 PM. This is a service of the Clubhouse. If you are feeling a little bit lonely or a little bit overwhelmed by too many visiting relatives, come on down! Or if you want to keep someone company, come on down!

Happy 4th!

Weather Permits

Saturday, June 27th, 2009

It’s going to be a bit warm and windy at 10 PM tonight, but there is no chance of rain. So I will say that for the meeting this evening, Weather Permits.

Remember to bring liquids to drink, and bug spray, and your books. And have a good time.

Also, as something of a forward notice, I will not be at the Weather Permitting meeting next week. It’s the July 4th weekend and there will be many party goers and tourists in the area, who will be trying to have a good time. Experience has shown me that it’s simply not a good idea to have a meeting under such circumstances.

If anyone else wants to go, have at it. I’ll hit up a meeting at the clubhouse, which will be open all day from 8 AM to 9 PM. Happy 4th!

Weather Permits

Saturday, June 20th, 2009

The evening looks very nice for an outdoor meeting. The weather will be a bit warm and breezy, but there is no rain in the forecast. I would say that for this evening, Weather Permits.

Don’t forget to bring water and insect repellent!

Weather will permit

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

Looking ahead to Saturday night, conditions will be hot and muggy, but there is no chance of rain. The forecast calls for 80 degrees, 85 percent humidity, and a southerly six MPH wind.

Please remember to bring iced drinks to refresh yourselves, and don’t forget insect repellent. See you there!

Weather Does Not Permit

Saturday, June 6th, 2009

The storm system that has brought clouds to St. Simons today is part of a much larger anti-cyclonic formation that is pouring rain around hundreds of square miles. The rainfall is not really in bands, but is heavily clumped together around a common center. This center seems to be about 40 miles west of Jacksonville, FL.

Will we get rain tonight? I can’t tell for certain. It’s what I call a “random” forcast, i.e., yes, no, maybe, maybe not, we just can’t tell.

So, for myself at least, Weather Does Not Permit. I’ll have my six miles of riding tomorrow and Monday. And Brad, sorry I didn’t call, but I don’t have your phone number.
